Rockies Place Kris Bryant on 60-Day IL: Back Problems Derail Star's Career (2026)

The Colorado Rockies have placed Kris Bryant on the 60-day injured list due to ongoing back issues. Bryant, a four-time All-Star and former MVP, has been plagued by chronic lumbar degenerative disc disease since signing a $182 million, seven-year contract in 2022. This has limited him to just 48 games over the past two seasons, with only 11 games played in 2025. Bryant's struggles have been extensive, including plantar fasciitis, a bone bruise, heel issues, a broken finger, a back strain, a lower rib contusion, and persistent back problems. In May 2025, he underwent an ablation procedure to interrupt pain signals, but he hasn't played since. With $78 million still owed over three seasons, the Rockies face a challenging decision regarding Bryant's future. Despite his injuries, Bryant is remembered for his pivotal role in the Chicago Cubs' historic 2016 World Series victory, ending a 108-year drought. Over 11 seasons, he has accumulated 184 home runs and 548 RBIs.
