"Ambition makes Hearts a compelling choice" - McInnes
Head coach Derek McInnes believes that Hearts is an appealing option as they lead the Scottish Premiership and prepare to bolster their squad during the January transfer window.
Already, they have secured the services of Kazakhstan winger Islam Chesnokov, and it appears that Dutch right-back Jordi Altena is expected to arrive from RKC Waalwijk soon.
Though McInnes refrained from commenting specifically on the 22-year-old Altena, he did express, "We are aiming to bring in a couple of players if possible during this transfer window."
He continued, "As much as we are pleased with our current performance, it’s vital for us to come out of this window even stronger than before."
Chesnokov has yet to train alongside his teammates but could potentially make his debut in the first match of 2026 against Livingston.
"We're hopeful that he will join us in the coming days," McInnes mentioned. "We're maintaining constant communication with him, and he's following the fitness program outlined by our sports science team.
If he can participate against Livingston, considering both his training and the necessary paperwork, that would be fantastic. However, it might be a tall order, but we are definitely working towards making it happen."
With a six-point advantage at the top of the league, Hearts is becoming an enticing destination for potential recruits. McInnes emphasizes that the club has a lot to offer to new players.
"We have plenty of appealing factors to present," he noted. "Edinburgh, Tynecastle, our excellent training facilities, and talented players all play a role. Additionally, who wouldn’t want to be part of a successful and ambitious team?
We truly are a solid option. Talented players typically have multiple choices, and I understand that. Our goal is to be the best choice available. By continuing to win matches and enhancing the club's profile, we can achieve that."
In January, McInnes also plans to streamline his squad, although he mentions that none of the less involved players have expressed any urgent desire to leave.
"This is one of the best groups of players I’ve had the pleasure to work with," he stated. "I take pride in fostering a strong and harmonious dressing room, and that’s exactly what we have here.
Winning games certainly contributes to a positive atmosphere, and it's easier to enjoy your job when you're regularly participating. It can be tougher for those who wish to contribute more but aren't getting the playing time they desire. However, I've noticed no signs of discontent, which is commendable for the players.
It goes without saying that some players might be interested in seeking more regular game time in January, but these discussions are ongoing.
It’s not merely a matter of needing to speak to someone today; these situations develop over time.
